At Dirty Worms Soil Works we want to promote and educate natural ways to garden and farm thus eliminating the use of synthetic fertilizers. Healthy soil should consist of 5% or more organic material, but modern farming techniques have robbed the soil of this precious resource, reducing that percentage to 1% or less in some cases, resulting in worm-free, mostly lifeless soil.

At Dirty Worm we WILL NEVER use synthetic fertilizers or feeds on our seeds or plants. All of our seedlings start in our in house made potting mix of coco-coir, perlite, and worm-castings. This mix is used for potting all seedlings. Seedlings are feed with our in house made worm tea.

 Synthetic fertilizers are bad because:

  • They can harm the environment because their nitrogen and phosphorous levels are often higher.
  • They kill beneficial microorganisms in the soil that convert dead human and plant remains into nutrient-rich organic matter.
  • They leach into groundwater and increase its toxicity, causing water pollution.
  • They disrupt natural cycles and accelerate climate change.
  • They are only practical for short-term use.
